Loose chignon
A loose chignon is the fastest and easiest hairstyle alternative to ponytail that you can create that is stylish and elegant. All you need to do is tie the hair in a loose ponytail tied with elastic at the nape of the neck. Divide the hair between the elastic and the scalp in two creating a gap; pull the ends of the pony tail up and out the top through the gap. Repeat the process and this time tuck the ends in and secure it with booby pins or a beautiful barrette. Spritz some hair spray to set the style.
Braided bun
A braided bun is another easy to create hairstyle alternative to a ponytail that is super elegant and yet takes very little time to create. Tie your hair with elastic in a high ponytail. Split it into three sections and braid each section separately, creating three small braids. Braid the three small braids again into one big braid and wrap it around the elastic and secure it with pins. This braided bun can be made into a messy and sexy looking bun by keeping the braids loose and messy or classic and elegant with the braids done very tidy and neat.
Fishtail braid
A fishtail braid will provide you that wraithlike mermaid look that is super sexy and alluring with its messy and less than perfect look. This alternative hairstyle to a ponytail is a very popular hairstyle and is often seen on models and celebrities featured in fashion magazines. This hairstyle looks a bit complicated but in truth very easy to create. It is easier done when the hair is tied in a ponytail. Split the hair into two sections. Take a small piece of hair from the back of the right section and cross it over the same section to join the left hand section. Then take small piece from the left hand section and cross it again over the same section. Continue the process until you reach the end of the hair then secure it with an elastic.
